Snowy North Carolina // Personal//01.14.11

every time i sit to write a personal blog post, i have to pick the perfect song to play in the back ground. i’m on a real Amy Seeley kick right now… which tends to be pretty slow and weepy.. so i will try not write slow and weepily. ;) also cool about Amy.. one of my favorite photographers [who's blog i stalk] shot the images for her new album.. you photographer types need to check her out.. Sarah Rhoads.

soooo much has been going down at the hensley hacienda over the last few months.. but i’ve had zero desire to blog about it. i’ve had a totally relaxing winter season just hanging out behind my computer.. wrapping up weddings here and there and being an album designing fiend… and yes.. in sweat pants [for it is sweat pant season for me + other wedding photographers after all]. Glorious. something also quite glorious is how God has been moving in our lives over the last few months. we’re finally getting some insight to why he’s having us downsize EVERYTHING in our lives and move to a house 1/2 the size of the one we have. pieces are moving together and it’s way cool to see. i don’t feel it’s quite time to share exacts.. but just know it’s coming and the miracle of it all is he chooses to use silly, worthless folks such as david + i to do ANYTHING.. totally miraculous and totally cool. to be continued.

so this past weekend we spent all three days in north carolina! we are quickly falling in love with that place and all of it’s cute and cozy towns it has to offer. mid last year we took a trip west to visit a few national parks and 100% fell in love with the town of jackson hole, wy. it’s pretty amazing. last weekend.. we found a place [much closer] that is almost equal.. blowing rock, nc! the cutest, coziest, friendlies little snow town there is… have an anniverary/birthday/valentines day/get away from the bills + kids weekend coming up? Choose the Ragged Gardens Inn! Best place we’ve ever stayed and THE BEST MEAL OF MY WHOLE ENTIRE LIFE [lamb chops, mashed potatoes + a zucchini boat.. yes.. zucchini boat]!

here’s a rundown of the snow/friend filled weekend and the images you’re about to see… [i could write a paragraph about each of these events.. but i will spare you... and my song is almost over] ;)

friday night/saturday [beech mountain] … staying @ the Zajonc’s cabin and loving on them and their flipping awesome kiddos and 3 ft of SNOW!

saturday [banner elk, nc]… snowboarding @ ski beech.. david’s #1 hobby currently [and he's getting pretty good at it too]

saturday night [blowing rock, ragged gardens inn]

sunday morning [blowing rock]… knights on main breakfast.. so yummy!

sunday afternoon [johnson city]… the nutter’s house [some of our super favorite sweet friends] delivering long belated christmas gifts.. i think every kid we know gets gifts 2-3 weeks post [insert holiday here]

Tiffany + Evan // Wedding//01.13.11

When you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible. ~Nora Ephron, When Harry Met Sally

Congratulations to a beautiful couple inside and out! Not only did the decorations, the dress and the Christmas decor come together perfectly for this winter wedding… so did friends and family from near and far. On of my favorite parts of my own wedding was looking out in the church and seeing all the people you love from completely different parts of your life… all together in the same place. It’s pretty stinkin cool. Tiffany and Evan have incredibly supportive family and friends from all over and it was neat to experience their long over-due meet ups. I think they hugged every single person at the reception that night. These two have such love in their hearts for everyone around them and clearly for one another as well. I was taught a lesson of love that night that I won’t soon forget and I’m sure this goes for everyone they meet. Thanks for letting me share your day with you and share it here. You guys are beyond awesome!

Courtney + Phil // Wedding//01.01.11

I seriously adore winter. I could live in Michigan, with all it’s snow and with all it’s cold.. in a heartbeat. For those of you guys who are not East Tennessee regulars.. it’s been snowing here off and on since early December. The Facebook/Twitter grumbling and groaning has already begun with lots of “ENOUGH ALREADY” s and “I MISS GLOBAL WARMING”s…. while I’m eating up every minute of it. To top it all.. David and I spent the weekend with good friends atop Beech Mountain [North Carolina] where there was.. yes.. 3 feet of snow! Oh heaven… sweet snowy heaven. There is however a downside to the winter time that has nothing to do with the snow [well maybe in some scientific "sun-being-further-from-earth-way" but that's not important here]. What ultimately stinks about winter is the sun likes to hide at around 5:00 these days! 5:00!! I want nothing more than to shoot every image out of my camera with the sun at my back and nature all around me. Nature is the very BEST backdrop. Good ol’ winter makes it pretty tough to make my wedding photography dreams come true. The cold and the sunlessness keep us inside… which is usually a huge bummer… until you walk into a sanctuary like this one.

Meet Courtney + Phil. These two KILLED IT with the ceremony decorations… far better than anything I’ve experienced thus far. My brides all tend to have a little creative gene in them, which makes me so happy, but this… THIS was awesome. This makes winter time photography not bad at all. So thankful to have shot this wedding a few weeks ago. I love these two and have known them for so many years. I honestly didn’t feel like I was working the wedding.. but like I was a guest [with the best seat in the house] watching two sweet friends dedicate their lives together. Oh, it was grand.. and their love is grand and I’m beyond excited to share the images from their day with you here.
